You are welcome here

There is a place here for you.

Exactly as you are.

You may be wondering whether you drink too much.

You may have tried stopping before.

You may be worried about what alcohol is doing to your health, work or relationships.

Or someone close to you may have suggested that drinking has become a problem.

AA will not diagnose you or tell you what you are. Only you can decide whether you want help with your drinking. And if you do, there is a meeting you can walk into.

A few private questions. Nothing is recorded or sent.

Your first step

Your first step can be very small.

01

Find a meeting.

Choose a city, day and time that works for you.

02

Walk in.

There is no membership application and no fee for attending.

03

Listen.

You do not have to tell your whole story. You can simply listen and see whether something feels familiar.

A meeting is usually a plain room, some chairs, and an hour.

What to expect

What happens at an AA meeting?

A room. Some chairs. People who understand.

AA meetings are gatherings of people who have faced problems with alcohol and have found a way to live without drinking. People share what drinking was like for them, what happened and what they do today to stay sober.

  • There are no lectures.
  • There is no judgement.
  • You are not required to speak.
  • You do not have to understand everything on your first day.

Just come as you are.

Plainly put

What AA is, and what it isn’t.

AA is…

  • A fellowship of people helping one another stay sober.
  • Free to attend.
  • Open to anyone who wants to do something about their drinking.
  • Based on shared experience rather than professional treatment.
  • Independent of religion, politics and outside organisations.
  • Built around anonymity.

AA is not…

  • A hospital.
  • A rehabilitation centre.
  • A counselling service.
  • A religious organisation.
  • A commercial treatment programme.
  • A place that forces anyone to stop drinking.

The decision to seek sobriety remains yours.

How recovery begins

One day doesn’t have to solve everything.

It only has to be today.

Recovery in AA is built one day at a time. Today you stay sober, and you learn from people who are doing the same thing today.

Meetings, the Twelve Steps and one alcoholic helping another form the heart of the AA programme.

The fellowship

AA Rajasthan

Local meetings. One shared purpose.

Across Rajasthan, independent AA groups come together around a common purpose: to stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.

AA Rajasthan helps connect the fellowship across the state through meetings, service, communication, awareness initiatives, conventions and fellowship activities.

No personalities stand above the programme. The message remains at the centre.

Voices from the rooms

No names. No faces. Just what it was like.

These are the kinds of things people say after a first meeting. Names stay out of it, because that is how the rooms work.

I sat in the back row and said nothing for three weeks. Nobody once asked me to explain myself.A member · Jaipur
What surprised me was the laughing. I had expected a very serious room.A member · Jodhpur
I did not believe I belonged. I kept coming anyway, and one day I did.A member · Kota
Someone gave me a phone number and said, ring it before the first drink, not after.A member · Udaipur
My wife found the meeting. She could not walk in for me, and she did not try to.A member · Ajmer

Watch

Sometimes it is easier to watch than to read.

Short films about what AA is, what happens at a meeting, and what the fellowship does not do. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play.

Add the YouTube video ID to each frame's data-yt attribute. Use official AA or AA GSO India films only.

Sometimes a phone call is easier
