For myself
Come and see it for yourself.
You don’t have to call yourself anything before you come. You don’t have to be certain that AA is right for you. You only have to be curious enough to sit in one room for an hour.
AA will not diagnose you or tell you what you are.
Only you can decide whether you want help with your drinking. Nobody at a meeting will decide it for you, argue with you about it, or ask you to promise anything about the rest of your life.
A way in
Three small things you can do today.
What a meeting asks of you
One hour, and that is all.
People often wonder what walking in will commit them to. One hour in a room, and then whatever you decide next. That is the whole of it.
- You are not required to speak, or to give your full name.
- There is no fee and no membership form.
- You do not need a referral, a prescription or a doctor’s note.
- You are not signing up for anything beyond the meeting you attend.
- What you hear and who you see is expected to stay in that room.
If you decide to go
What the first hour is actually like.
Most people remember their first meeting. Not because they understood the programme immediately, but because, perhaps for the first time, they found themselves in a room with people who understood what drinking had become for them.
If you think alcohol may be causing a problem in your life and you have a desire to stop drinking, you are welcome.
Sometimes a phone call is easier
You don’t need to prepare what you’re going to say.
